In the immediate vicinity, within a radius of 15 km as the crow flies, there are 108 lakes in Croatia and 36 lakes in Hungary. We have been swimming for fishing and many places around the lakes have the possibility of camping. There are large walking paths through the forest there are many remains of old buildings that were once Yugoslav barracks and military warehouses. Now it is left to decay and the ravages of time. The forest is rich in lakes and freshwater fish. Most of the roads through the forest are paved, mostly concrete roads. The forest is rich in firewood and building materials for personal needs. The forest is full of birds, there are about 360 species of winged birds, protected species, and large-toothed wild animals. This used to be a lobby during the time of Yugoslavia, where the president of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, had a hunting ground. There are many medieval fortresses in the area, unfortunately destroyed and left to decay by the ravages of time and there are also medieval explored and unexplored tunnels. This area is rich in archaeological sites. There are many bunkers from the First World War along the Drava River The Croatian Amazon One of the last natural ecosystems in Europe : The Croatian Amazon is located in the basin of the Mura, Drava and Danube rivers, and has lush and diverse vegetation, countless birds, otters and other animals. We asked the foresters why UNESCO declared this area a national bioreserve. The Drava is one of the best preserved and rare European rivers that are largely untamed. Its wild and unpredictable nature constantly creates new and renews existing habitats. This aquatic beauty is responsible for the richness of plant and animal life, and precisely because of this biodiversity, but also its occasional impassability, the appearance of this area reminds many of the famous Amazon rainforest. The name European Amazon became popular after UNESCO declared the Mura-Drava-Danube basin a biosphere reserve in 2012. The reserve today includes about a million hectares and about 700 kilometers of river flow. The Croatian part of the European Amazon extends along the Mura River and from the mouth of the Mura to Drava further along the Drava River to its confluence with the Danube. This area has been called the Mura-Drava Regional Park for ten years. * The greatest uniqueness of the Croatian Amazon lies in the unobstructed flow of rivers, whose natural flows often unpredictably pave their paths, creating meanders, shoals, islands and backwaters in the river valleys. This is one of the indisputable proofs of how great and astonishing the power of nature is in this area. It is interesting that not only the river valleys are changing, as Nataša Rap notes, but also the coastal forests. The water constantly carries away earthen material, trees, but also light seeds of willow and poplar, and on the other hand brings silt, sand and gravel. This constant water exchange creates the conditions for the development of new forest areas - the so-called walking areas. - In this way, the life of forest communities along the river takes on a dynamic form, we have the impression that the winding strip of the river and the forests around it are in constant change, circling and bypassing each other, at one moment destroying, and at the next creating At the very peak of biodiversity The Croatian Amazon is the habitat of many birds. According to ornithological research, more than 200 species of birds live in this area. These are kingfishers, teals, woodpeckers, woodpeckers, snipe, woodpecker, bee-eater, owl and so on, and among the endangered and protected birds stand out the common ibis, black stork, little and great egret, little egret, little tern and little grebe. Likewise, the Drava is, according to some reports, the river richest in fish in Croatia, and the wetlands along its course are home to numerous species of amphibians, reptiles and insects. And in the forest areas, dormice, wild cats, bats, deer, wild boars, and the like have become established.
